Amazon wants to make it easier than ever to ditch cable. These listings are displayed by name instead of number, which should be more pleasing to the eyes, with TV channels also intermingling into the "Recents" area of the Fire TV software.
"Fire TV Edition helps customers easily find new programming, access live TV and control their viewing experience using just their voice", said Sandeep Gupta, vice president of smart TV, Amazon Fire TV.
Of course, the inclusion of Fire TV capabilities is no reason to buy a televisions set, given how affordable the Fire TV and Fire Stick are, but this is an interesting move from Amazon.
The TVs are available with Element or Westinghouse branding, with no difference in price between the two, since they are, well, the same company.
Fire TV Edition is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core CPU, multi-core 3D GPU chipset for instant search results and fast and fluid responsiveness. Originally announced in January, the company has kicked off pre orders on four smart TVs by Chinese manufacturer Element Electronics, including a 43-inch model for $449, a 50-inch model for $549, a 55-inch model for $649, and a 65-inch model for $899. The folks at Element Electronics are bringing the first 4K televisions with Amazon Fire TV Edition innards to the market. That's a feature that Roku TVs only added in November, so you can see just how aggressively and quickly Amazon is catching up. That means you can use voice commands to control your TV, as well as tell Alexa to turn down your Philips Hue smart light bulbs or turn up the ecobee3 smart thermostat.
Speaking of which, the TV offers a solid mix of ports.
Most TV manufacturers offer connected televisions that provide access to streaming services and apps. There isn't a headphone jack built into the remote, but you can hook up Bluetooth headphones for private listening.
The new Element models are 4K TVs equipped with 3GB of memory and 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded with an SD card or USB drive. This is the most promising aspect of these new 4K TVs in fact. Seiki was originally slated to also have a Fire TV model but will no longer, she confirmed.
