Terry Francona had quite the interesting way of welcoming his good friend Kevin Cash to Progressive Field before Monday night's game between the Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays.
Carrasco was removed from the game in the fourth inning with left pectoral tightness.
In running down the pitching matchups on Monday evening, the Rays sending Chris Archer to the hill against Carlos Carrasco of the Indians looked like it had potential to be a dandy. "It wasn't good on my part to start the inning that way", said Miller, whose scoreless-innings streak was the longest by an Indians pitcher to start the season since Doug Jones pitched 20 consecutive scoreless innings to start the 1990 season.
"I don't worry about that", he said.
Edwin Encarnacion had an RBI grounder in the first for the Indians.
Already trailing 1-0 and facing Rays ace Chris Archer, Carlos Santana hit an RBI-single to left-center field to tie it. Edwin Encarnacion, hitting fifth in the lineup for the first time this season, then grounded into what was almost an inning-ending double play.
With Carrasco out, Cleveland got a big lift from its bullpen, with five relievers combining to limit the Rays to two runs over the final five innings. Francisco Lindor added a home run in the eighth.
Abraham Almonte started the Indians second with a triple and scored on a throwing error by catcher Derek Norris.
The quintet combined for 5.1 quality innings with Miller and Allen uncharacteristically giving up one run apiece, including a solo home run in the ninth to Peter Bourjos.
Archer allowed seven runs in five innings. He gave up 5 hits, walked 6, struck out 6 and threw 101 pitches.
The Rays are 1-4 in Odorizzi's last five starts versus a team with a winning record, and 0-6 in Odorizzi's last six starts following a quality start in his last appearance. But he was safe at first by half a step, which allowed Michael Brantley, who had walked earlier in the inning, to score.
After Carlos Santana laced an RBI single and Edwin Encarnacion grounded into an RBI forceout, Chisenhall found the sweet spot and blasted a three-run homer to right field, a 367-foot shot travelling at 102.2-mph in the first frame. Corey Dickerson has a.340 average, 12 doubles, six home runs and 13 RBI to lead the team right now while Logan Morrison has 10 homers with 24 RBI. He was replaced by right-hander Nick Goody. "I think we'll have a much better read, but it's hopeful that maybe a couple days could remedy that, we'll see".
The Indians are having a hard time playing a game without one of their players getting hurt. Arizona Diamondbacks center fielder A.J. Pollock has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a "grade one" right groin strain. Guyer will be out for four to six weeks with a sprained left wrist. Longoria also needs two at-bats to break Carl Crawford's club record (4,992).
